I cruise regularly through the Asian aisle at my local groc to buy canned coconut milk and to see if there are any new discoveries as I feel like this is the one aisle that keeps evolving. I check out the sauces...the Sweet and Sour, the Hoisin, the Sweet Chili (personal fave)... and there is always something that turns me off on the ingredient list. Which is a bummer because although you can create a sauce at home, it's still nice to have a bottle on hand for those emergency nights. Plus you'll have to buy about 4 bottles of stuff to make 1 bottle of the sauce and cupboard real estate can be pretty limited when you live in an apt.
Alas I have some killer looking orange chopsticks I need to use, so I've been put to the challenge to make my own saucy sauce. Well worth the barely any trouble it took to make this sauce. This sauce is nutritious, easy, tasty and very pretty!
Plums are in season now so this is the perfect time to try making this sauce. I've included a short 2 min video to show how easy it is which includes 4 different dish ideas!
According to Dr. William Li's book "Eat to Beat Disease" plums have 3x the amount of cancer-fighting polyphenols compared to peaches. Despite whether those nutrients are in in the skin or not doesn't need to be of a concern with this dish because you keep the plum's skin on!
I've already made it 3 times and used it in a number of ways. Here are 2 ideas.....
ROASTED EGGPLANT WITH PLUM SAUCE AND CAULIFLOWER RICE, ROASTED ZUCCHINI AND ROASTED BELL PEPPER
STIR FRIED TOFU WITH PLUM SAUCE, STEAMED BROCCOLI AND GLASS NOODLES
